Man Made

“Man Made” 17x22 in., size: petite, acrylic on panel, Jeff Del Nero 2017

From a tradition of pop art sensibility, a simple representation of an everyday object calls attention to the use it represents in our society and/or our era. A chair, a functional object that is made out of wood for use by humans.

In this case, a painting of a chair, the paint on this gessoed panel is an iron oxide that is rusted black, a dialog between the image of an object, the knowledge about the represented object, the maker of the object, and the absence of the maker and absence of the person the chair was made for.

Plato's Theory of Form:
Particular Thing -> Essence -> Function, Purpose -> FORM -> ETERNAL FORM
