Looking around and seeing pretty much everything we well-intentioned humans touch, eventually tends to somehow turn out wrong. I have been noticing what I call “accidental monsters” in humanity’s ventures. Great ideas have a way of solving one or two problems but then starting new sets of unexpected challenges.

This body of work starts out as small observations in my sketchbook. This is where these doodles happen, and then they get re-imagined at another scale or in other pairings on these panels.

“If Necessity is the Mother of Invention, Then is Technology the Father of Dependence?”

I have noticed a “giving over” of our memory, intellect, and wisdom to technology. Telephone numbers, conversations, decisions, and more seem to be handed over to our devices. Our culture is being deformed by technology. What happens when technology lets us down?

One question I have carried with me for around thirty years now is “what will remain of this society” when it is found later? will it be all that remains is the densest material we produced? porcelain toilets? fire hydrants? dams? Without electricity will this current culture become invisible? Can humanity's resourcefulness save it from itself?
